Les Donnelly Scholarship.

A Profile of Leslie R. Donnelly

Les Donnelly was born in Moose Jaw and spent years his early years at Herbert, Saskatchewan receiving his early education there. After service in the Royal Canadian Navy he began his working career with Canadian Pacific Communications, and went on to a successful business career. He joined the Saskatchewan Safety Council in 1970 as Executive Director, a position he held until 1982. During his time at the Council he initiated a number of activities, many of which are still active today. One of his major accomplishments was formation of the Council's Occupational Safety Division and a number of industrial safety training programs, which led to numerous safety improvements in Saskatchewan's workplace.

In recognition of his service to the safety community he was awarded an honorary life membership in the Saskatchewan Safety Council.

Les is now retired and lives in Regina with his wife Bernice.

The Scholarship

The Les Donnelly Occupational Safety Scholarship is an annual scholarship up to a maximum of $2,000. It is funded by the Council's Memorial Trust Fund. The Trust Fund was established in the 1970's by Les Donnelly, to help fund safety education and public awareness programs.

Criteria for the Scholarship

The recipient of the scholarship must be a Saskatchewan resident who is taking a college or university level safety program. Applicants must submit responses to selected questions along with their application.

Deadline for Applications

Applications must be received by the Saskatchewan Safety Council no later than May 31 for the same year acceptance.
