Power Mobile Equipment (PME)

Occupational Health and Safety Regulations require employers to ensure that only trained and competent operators are permitted to operate powered mobile equipment.
Regulations define a “trained operator” as a worker who:
  • has successfully completed a training program that includes all of the elements set out in Table 11 of the Appendix for the type of powered mobile equipment that the worker will be required or permitted to operate; or
  • is completing the practical training required by Table 11 of the Appendix under direct supervision of a competent operator within the meaning of clause (a).
Saskatchewan OH&S legislation as per Part 10 states that every employer or contractor shall ensure that machines are operated only by a competent worker; and, that workers are informed of any risk associated with, and trained in the safe use of, the machines.

Training must meet the specific requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations. A minimum of 16 hours combined theory and practical training is required on all powered mobile equipment.

The Saskatchewan Safety Council offers the necessary training to meet these regulations through two training formats.
  1. Blended learning programs which combine online training and on-location operator evaluations.
  2. In-person, hands-on, individual operator coaching and evaluation on the specific equipment that is to be utilized.
Unless otherwise stated, our power mobile equipment training certificates do not expire.
The Saskatchewan Safety Council can accommodate your training needs to ensure operators use proper and safe techniques. We provide training on a wide variety of equipment, not all of which is listed on our site.

For evaluations, Power Mobile Equipment (PME) equipment must be in safe operating condition and meet all safety standards and regulations. Customers are expected to provide a safe open area to operate the PME type and if required, some items or products to handle with the forks or buckets (if applicable). We also require an onsite facility in which we can deliver the theory (classroom) portion of the training.

Evaluation costs are based on the number of participants, the experience level of the operators being evaluated, and the number of equipment attachments they need to be evaluated using.
Blended Learning Programs:
  • Aerial Work Platforms
  • Agricultural Tractors
  • Forklift (Class I - VII)
  • Power Mobile Equipment Evaluator
  • Skid Steer Loader
  • Variable Reach Material Handlers
  • Wheel Loader
Hands-on Training Courses:
