Safety for those caring for young children.

Picture
When it comes to caring for a child in today’s life environments, Health and safety information as well as resources are continuously changing. Because of this, new babysitters need formal training to be properly prepared in case of an emergency. The FREE Safe Saskatchewan Babysitter training program is an excellent way to prepare a young adult for the important demands of the job.

The goals of the
Safe Saskatchewan Babysitter training program are to provide participants with up-to-date child care information, the tools to properly communicate with parents, the knowledge for preventing and treating injuries, and managing any other challenges that may arise.

This free training program is delivered throughout Saskatchewan exclusively by volunteer Saskatchewan Safety Council Community Safety Champions who have completed the required instructor training.

Youth aged 11 and older are eligible to participate in the Safe Saskatchewan Babysitter program. To receive a certificate of completion, participants must complete:
  • A minimum of 11 hours of in-class training
  • A 2-hour practical component

To become a Safe Saskatchewan Babysitter instructor, please complete the Request for Volunteer Training form located near the bottom of this page: https://www.sasksafety.org/volunteer.html - As a Community Safety Champion, you will join a welcoming network of injury prevention advocates who help deliver valuable safety education and resources across Saskatchewan.

All instructors must complete the following self-paced online training requirements:
Volunteer Orientation
  • Approximate duration: 1.5 hours
This online orientation and onboarding course is mandatory for all Community Safety Champions.
  • Note: A Criminal Record Check (CRC) with Vulnerable Sector Check is required for all volunteers delivering the Safe Saskatchewan Babysitter program or participating in any activity that involves, or could potentially involve, one-on-one unsupervised contact with youth.
Volunteer – Babysitter Instructor Training

This online training provides volunteer instructors with a comprehensive overview of the Safe Saskatchewan Babysitter program, including presentation materials, activities, program requirements, and instructional guidelines.

Please Note: The previous Babysitter program and resources are no longer available. Prior to July of 2026, the Saskatchewan Safety Council only provided resource materials for the delivery of the Babysitter training program by individuals or organizations wishing to host and instruct the course. Up until that point, the Council had not delivered babysitter training, accredit, certify, screen, train, or otherwise qualify those who were instructing it in any way. Those delivering the training were not affiliated with the Council. Those instructors with existing materials may use them up, but new orders are not being accepted for the previous version.
