Career Safety Education (CSE) is the first program of its kind in North America. While the emphasis is on new and young workers, CSE provides universal access to completely FREE safety training for everyone in Saskatchewan.

Thanks to generous partners, sponsors, members, and donors we are proud to deliver free online training to new and experienced workers everywhere in Saskatchewan.

For youth prior to their entry into the workforce, new workers starting in a new job or industry, or new Canadians just having moved to Saskatchewan, this series of workplace safety training programs results in the development of a workforce with an increased knowledge of hazards and a better understanding of how to manage risks.

This program nurtures an understanding of injury prevention theories that will result in fewer injuries in workplaces, during recreational activities, in and around homes, and on Saskatchewan roads.

All online components of CSE are specifically designed by industry safety experts to address the most common injuries to young and new workers in their respective fields.

The standard series of online components may be complemented with practical on-site training if a community or group can secure sponsorship to pay the delivery costs.

To complete Career Safety Education, four foundation-building safety courses must be completed.
The 4 Foundation Courses are:
  1. New Worker Readiness
  2. Mental Health Wellness Resiliency
  3. Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS 2015)
  4. Hearing Protection
After which, participants choose one or more industry courses from the list below – completing additional courses is encouraged.
  1. Fall Protection Training
  2. Ground Disturbance for Saskatchewan Workers
  3. Respiratory Protection Training
  4. Retail Safety Training
  5. Safe Trailering
  6. Agriculture: OATS (Online Agriculture Training System)
    Relaunch slated for spring 2023
  7. Healthcare: WAVE (Workplace Assessment and Violence Education) Available only to those under 21 years of age.
  8. Construction and Trades: SCOT (Safety Construction Orientation Training) Available only to those under 21 years of age.

Career Safety Education Hosted Practical Option (Including a Practical Component)

If you want to include hands-on training in your school, division, workplace, or organization you can host our safety training in your community. In this format, participants complete the online training as a prerequisite and then participate in a hands-on safety elective. For Employers
New workers, regardless of age or demographics, have a statistically higher rate of injury in the workplace. These workers have yet to gain the valuable experience that their co-workers may have, many often have less training provided to them until they are through a probationary period. It can be a significant investment to train a new hire in all of the different subjects that you hope to, and that training may be spread out over a number of months. But what if you could get that new worker a significant amount of that training at no cost?

Career Safety Education offers a variety of free essential safety courses that could benefit your future employees. Employers can pick and choose which programs fit into their new-hire process, making sure that each new employee gets consistent, high quality safety information before starting your company-specific training.

Employers can ask to see proof of Career Safety Education as part of an application process, demonstrating the future employee's commitment to the job they are applying for, and helping to screen the potential candidates down to those that are more truly committed.

If you are interested in extending your organization brand to a large pool of new workers that will be actively seeking employment, consider a
sponsorship opportunity as well!

Ready to register a group of employees in Career Safety Education?

If so, please complete the form below. Once the form is complete and submitted to the Saskatchewan Safety Council, we will ask for the completion of an Employer Application Form and submission of a employee list so progress can be tracked. Alternatively, employees may register as individuals, which is also required for groups participants but without the added benefit of the progress tracking.

For Parents
As a parent, the prospect of employment for your child can be exciting and daunting. They are starting a new chapter in their lives, and you want to ensure both their safety and success. You also want them to have an edge on the competition when applying for their summer jobs or future careers with the best employers in your community.

There are three methods of completing Career Safety Education:
  1. Complete the training through the self-study method. Your child would have to complete the mandatory courses.
  2. Participate in the Curriculum Fitted format, where their teacher would complete the training during regular school classes or through an organization workshop.
  3. Hosted Practical (includes a hands-on training element delivered in a participant’s school, organization, community group, or workplace)
You can contact the Community Relations Coordinator at 306-757-3197 or
cse@sasksafety.org for more information about the three options.

If you work for or own a company that wants to promote safety training in your community, we recommend sponsoring a Career Safety Education Hosted Practical. Share the video below to inform those you know.
